Oldest School in Bobo

We happened to see it when we stopped by looking for a friend. They said it is 110 years old. Looking pretty good, all things considered.

When we found the school of the friend we were looking for, I took a picture of some of the classroom buildings (this seems to be pretty much what they all look like, a couple or so buildings like this comprise the school):

And also the courtyard. Some of the students realized I was taking pictures and posed! It’s funny and kind of sad, because they are intrigued by me, but a lot are also afraid of me (especially the youngest ones). I don’t think I’ve ever had kids be afraid of me before, so that’s an adjustment.

Street View

This definitely merited a quick snap as we drove by ...
[Previous comment deleted after I realized I misread it, désenclavement means "opening up," my bad!]

Snapped this over Amadou’s shoulder as we rolled through a new corner of Bobo. Just to give you a rough idea of what a main street looks like (this one is even paved!).

Strive for Five

Some pictures from another market we visited the other day. I really like seeing all the different produce, it’s really impressive. It’s also fun, because my friend Laurent wrote his thesis in geography on market patterns in Burkina and Ghana, so now I get to see things in real life.

So many mangoes!

Now that I’ve seen these avocados, I feel like I’ve been lied to my whole life. This picture doesn’t even really do their size justice. I don’t know if I can look at our dinky variant the same way anymore.

Even apples, pears, and bananas!
